With optimized color print resolution for photo quality images, along with user friendly features such as borderless printing, the HP DeskJet D2530 is a personal inkjet color printer worth taking a look at if your demands include photo printing capabilities. While the HP DeskJet D2530 offers relatively sluggish print speeds and a very low monthly duty cycle, and is therefore unsuitable for heavy output or office use, its quality color capabilities make it an option for the home business or personal user.

With print speeds topping out at 16 pages per minute for both color and black and white, the HP DeskJet D2530 is certainly not a competitor for speed among other printers in its category, especially when considering the fact that photograph quality enhanced color printing will take considerably longer, at more than a minute per page, or 26 seconds per page at draft quality.

A monthly duty cycle of a flimsy 1,000 pages means the HP DeskJet D2530 is limited to extremely light duty usage, and should never be considered for businesses with heavy output demands. A black and white print resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch, however, will keep monochrome text documents looking professional.

1200 dot per inch resolution is also obtainable for color prints and, when photo paper is utilized (supposedly exclusively HP brand photo paper, but third party paper will work just as well), an optimized 4800 x 1200 dot per inch resolution is obtainable. While stand alone printing is also an option, 4800 dpi is, for some reason, only selectable when printing from a connected PC or Mac.

The HP DeskJet D2530 comes with a single ink cartridge in box that includes the three colors cyan, magenta, and yellow, but a second ink cartridge with black in is available for purchase separately for enhanced darkening capabilities, as well as a reduction in color ink usage when printing text or black and white images.

A limited 80 sheet input tray and 20 sheet output tray further the HP DeskJet D2530’s standing as an extremely light duty printer. Envelopes can be loaded automatically, but only at a maximum of 10 at a time. Other compatible special media types include transparencies, greeting cards, and letterhead, which makes the device appropriate for a hobbyist.

Custom paper sizes are also selectable, down to the size of an index card (3 x 5 inches) all the way up to an impressive 8.5 x 30 inch executive paper size for small posters and banners. The unit itself measures in at 17.23 x 12.09 x 5.54 in. (w x d x h) with the tray down, and 17.23 x 8.14 x 5.54 in. with the tray up, and its weight is only 6.16 pounds.

While the Energy Star qualified HP DeskJet D2530’s specifications make it clear that is was intended for the user with minimal output requirements at excellent photo quality, what the device lacks in overall power it makes up for in price, as the printer comes with a suitable price tag for strict home use.
