The network ready Dell Laser Printer 1710n is a powerful monochrome laser device designed to add massive print capabilities to a single user, or connect an entire office to a high output capacity machine. Though the unit comes equipped with a wide range of effective implemented features, the 1710n’s real draws are its super fast print speed, and its connectivity options.

Boasting a print speed of 26 pages per minute maximum when using standard letter sized paper, the Dell Laser Printer 1710n ranks with the best as far as speed. When printing to legal sized paper, or other media types and sizes, print speed will only suffer slightly. Time to first print is also very speedy, clocking in at only 8 seconds. Unfortunately, this time is only accurate when the printer is in standby mode. From a cold start, warm up time will be included, making the time to first print from power off mode a full 40 seconds.

A standard 250 sheet capacity paper drawer is included with the Dell Laser Printer 1710n, and an additional 550 sheet capacity drawer can be purchased separately, if constant paper swaps begin to become a hassle under high output circumstances, which brings the total potential paper capacity to an impressive 800 sheets. An output tray with a 150 sheet total capacity should also assist in keeping heavy volumes of print material moving along at a decent rate.

Though the Dell Laser Printer 1710n is not equipped with an automatic duplexer, a manual duplex mode is supported via the included software. Manual duplex software eliminates the guesswork involved in making double sided printing, and will automatically calculate proper page numbers in order depending on the project. Other software included in the package consists of the Dell Toner Management system, which automatically alerts users of low toner problems directly on the desktop, and a toner save function that is manageable remotely via PC.

The Dell Laser Printer 1710n’s output resolution statistics are possibly its most outstanding features, running at a standard print quality of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch; literally four times the resolution of the standard seen in other models of this caliber. A 2400 image quality setting is also adjustable, but will ultimately affect print speeds.

With 32 MBs of standard on board memory, the Dell Laser Printer 1710n comes twice as equipped as its alternate model, the 1710, which lacks an internal network card. It is also upgradable to a full 160 MBs of memory via a single additional memory slot for complex print tasks, as well as simultaneous jobs via a network.

No multi purpose tray is included with the unit, but it does offer a single pass, front loading multi function slot that allows for printing to envelopes and extra thick media types such as card stock. Thanks to an extra simple, 2 button, 5 LED dedicated control setup, the Dell Laser Printer 1710n is easily one of the most user friendly models on the market. This, along with Dell’s extensive warranty and on site repair plan, makes it a secure buy for almost any small business.
