The words, “low cost,” and, “color laser,” are rarely seen in the same sentence, and yet somehow Dell has made it possible with their Dell Laser Printer 1320C, a full color laser printer that is as affordable as it is usable. An incredible value on every level, this Dell brings the power of color laser printing to your own desktop.

This sleek, all black unit was designed with not just the office user in mind, but the home business as well. A manageable footprint of only 15.6″ x 16.6″ x 14.8″ makes this cube shaped hardware squeezable onto, or under, almost any personal desk. With a weight of only 37.8 pounds, it’s also easy to carry and move around.

Black and white print speeds are great for a home laser; topping out at 16 pages per minute, but perhaps more impressive is the color print speed of 12 pages per minute, an incredible increase from color laser models we’ve seen in the past. A duty cycle of 35,000 pages per month means that the Dell Laser Printer 1320C can not only produce crisp, vibrant color, it can do it in incredible quantity. However, each toner cartridge runs with only a 2,000 page yield, and there are four of them (black and three colors), so, while the unit is well equipped for massive color output, it is very costly.

Though the Dell Laser Printer 1320C is small enough for personal home use, it is also more than ready for office networking thanks to a built in network card that allows any number of computers to utilize its features. A network color laser printer of this caliber is perfect for the office that would love to add color technology to their hardware set, but doesn’t require the massive output, and price, of industrial grade units.

Considering the immense cost of color printing, some businesses would be very cautious of purchasing a network ready color laser printer due to the possibility of “color hogs.” Canon noticed this problem, and implemented a very comprehensive solution. With Dell’s Color Track 2 software, an administrator can create up to fifty user or department accounts and monitor each of their print jobs. It is the software version of a tattle tale, and it can automatically disable certain users if their color, or even black and white, usage extends beyond selectable parameters. You can control the software remotely, and secretly, using the Dell Printer Web Configuration Tool.

Other included software consists of the Dell Toner Management System that makes monitoring and reordering toner simple and effective, due to the direct access to Dell’s website through the software itself. This is a direct attempt from Dell to keep users buying toner directly from them, as opposed to seeking out a more cost effective, third party provider such as quickship.com.

With a standard memory of 64 MBs of ram, there’s almost no project the Dell Laser Printer 1320C can’t handle, regardless of size and, with the versatility of color laser printing at an incredibly affordable price, the unit is definitely an office luxury worth considering.
