Despite the fact that the Dell Laser Printer 1125 has a strangely positioned, grotesque paper tray that adds several inches to the printer’s footprint, this four in one device comes with internal hardware that performs with specifications that match units above its price range. This, along with extensive support from the Dell team, make this printer copier combo a great decision for a small business wishing to cut costs by combining many functions into a single unit.
With print resolution locked at 600 x 600 dots per inch, text will come out looking professional. Images and charts will lack slightly due to the bare minimum resolution, but are still possible. Scan resolution is also very limited, and also set at 600 x 600 dots per inch for optical scans.
A built in 30 page automatic document feeder will keep projects moving along swiftly whether copying, scanning, or faxing. Transmission speeds for faxes runs at 33.6 K thanks to a built in Super G3 modem that can keeps incoming and outgoing projects moving at a rapid rate of up to 3 seconds per page.
Print and copy speeds are very fast as well, with both topping out at 21 pages per minute when using letter sized paper. This is made possible in part by a 133 MHz on board processor that keeps even complex and cumbersome projects moving along without a hitch. A standard memory of 32 MBs also assists in digital project management and is not expandable, but should prove to be sufficient for any project within the Dell Laser Printer 1125’s scope.
Paper handling comes in two forms: a large, 250 sheet standard paper tray that can hold up to half a ream of 20 lb paper, and a convenient 10 sheet multipurpose tray for special media types. This brings the total paper storage capacity to a sufficient 260 total sheets. An output tray with a 100 sheet capacity is also helpful when project sizes begin to get large. Acceptable paper sizes range from 16 lbs to 24 lbs for the standard tray, while thicker media such as card stock is compatible with the Dell Laser Printer 1125 via the multipurpose tray.
Thanks to an awkwardly located paper tray, the footprint is a little larger than it could have been, with dimensions of 16.3 x 17.5 x 14.8 inches, but is still fairly manageable, and still keeps the Dell Laser Printer 1125 small enough to be considered a desktop printer. Its weight is also fairly respectable at only 23.3 pounds.
With the help of a USB 2.0 HI Speed port, connectivity to Windows based PCs is made easy, unfortunately Dell printers are designed for use with their composite computer systems, and therefore are not Macintosh friendly. With a 1,000 sheet toner cartridge included with the unit in box, you wont get very far when dealing in high paper output, but additional high yield toner cartridges are available for purchase from Dell, or from third party dealers. With print, copy, scan and fax capabilities included in this single unit, the Dell Laser Printer 1125 should serve any small office well.
