The Copystar CS-1810 is the big brother to its sister model, the Copystar CS-1510. It comes with many of the versatile, all digital features that made its counterpart popular, plus a range of powerful, and impressive improvements in the areas of speed, and hardware functionality, along with an optional networking add on.
The Copystar CS-1510 is very limited, like all models with the same deficiency, by a lack of a high capacity automatic document feeder. The Copystar CS-1810 remedies this problem with a hefty 30 sheet automatic document feeder, making the unit infinitely more valuable to the workgroup that requires large, multiple sheet copy projects, as opposed to simple, one time copies. Interestingly, the Copystar CS-1510 was included with an ADF of its own, but with only a single sheet capacity. The Copystar CS-1810 adds a paper tray, which is what, in part, boosts its weight up from 55 pounds, to an even more cumbersome 59.5 pounds.
Another key addition that assists the Copystar CS-1810 in competing with the usefulness and speed of today’s popular multifunctional units is its increase in output speed, raising the bar from a decent 15 copies per minute, to a competitive 18 copies per minute for letter sized paper. Legal sized copy speed has also been increased to a rapid 15 copier per minute.
When dealing with either large amounts of input, or massive single copy outputs (up to 99 continuously at one time), even a seemingly slight increase in speed can drastically cut down on overall project time, The automatic document feeder is also compatible with undersized paper sources, as small as 5.5” x 8”, unfortunately, when using the ADF, copy time will also be reduced down to 15 pages per minute, letter sized.
An optional network printing addition can allow the Copystar CS-1810 to function not only as a copy machine, but as a network printer as well, ushering the copier into the realm of the truly multifunctional unit. Unfortunately, the addition must strictly be purchased separately, and it would be difficult to find one on today’s market. Still, if an additional printer function would be beneficial for a workload with an existing Copystar CS-1810, the add on may be worth tracking down.
Paper handling is fully automated thanks to an automatic switching mode that can select between two large paper sources. A 250 sheet drawer style paper tray can automatically load half a ream of paper with weight up to 21lbs. Additionally, a 50 sheet multi purpose tray is available for thicker media types, or non standard paper widths, making custom letterhead, greeting cards, and transparencies all possibilities for copy output material.
Imaging modes help to maximize output quality when juggling between standard text input and graphical imagery. Selectable modes include text, photo, text/photo, a manual mode for personal adjustments, and even an ECO mode, ensuring that, no matter what you’re input source, you will be sure exposure problems will rarely arise.
The Copystar CS-1810 has been around for some years, but with its raw power, and comprehensive digital features, it is still a reasonable desktop option for a small business.
