As desktop laser copy machine that can make reproductions in both monochrome and color, the Copystar CS-1505 is a great addition to an office hardware set that currently operates exclusively in black and white, as many of them do. Not only is the machine reasonably sized, it is also quiet, with a noise emission of less than or equal to 70 dBs, making it an unintrusive choice, even for the home business.
With copy speeds for both black and white and color topping out at a 15 copies per minute when outputting to letter sized paper, and a ,marginally slower, 13 copies per minute for legal sized, it is hard to believe this highly powerful unit was released so long ago, in 2001.
With automatic paper feeding from dual sources, the Copystar CS-1505 ranks up there with the current machines of today in the paper handling category. A 250 sheet capacity drawer style tray holds up to a half of a ream of paper and, additionally, a multi bypass tray capable of storing up to 50 sheets of paper, when using a standard paper thickness ,brings the total paper storage capacity to an impressive 300 sheets.
The standard tray operates with only letter or legal sized sheets, but the muli bypass drawer is designed to operate with special paper types such as colored paper, or custom letterhead. Also, output types too thick to be used in the standard tray, such as transparencies and card stock, are entirely compatible with the 50 sheet tray.
One of the most impressive features of the Copystar CS-1505 is the incredibly fast time to first copy, clocking it at a rapid 6.3 seconds. After the first copy, continuous copy can run for up to 99 copies in a row. With an initial copy time this fast after warm up, waiting time is at an absolute minimum for a unit of this stature. Warm up times themselves vary, depending on the current state of the copy machine. Standard, room temperature warm up time is a fairly decent 30 seconds.
Interestingly, Energy Saver modes are adjustable, allowing priority to be adjusted for fast recovery, or for less power usage. When in recovery mode, warm up time is a mere ten seconds thanks to an auto preheat function. When power save mode is selected, the unit will take advantage of a full 30 seconds of warm up in the interest of lowering overall operating consumption, and thus ultimately lowering overall cost of use. For additional power cost reduction, a convenient automatic shut off mode can be set.
Other adjustable features include exposure, which can be set to automatic, or manual for fine tuning darkness and toner usage. A photo mode can be specified when copying color images, to help maximize the reading and writing resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch. There is a zoom copy mode, and also an automatic zoom mode with an easy to use, dedicated button that allows quick access to an array of standard zoom sizes, securing the Copystar CS-1505 as a desktop copier that is simple, and powerful enough to stand the test of time.
